One of my (very…) rudimentary mental models after having read The Elephant in the Brain: Hidden Motives in Everyday Life by Kevin Simler and Robin Hanson some time ago and recently listening to the Complexity podcast with Steven Teles & Rajiv Sethi on Jailbreaking The Captured Economy (EPE 04).
